Women’s Day

Exhibition celebrating work by artists identifying as women and carers.

This exhibition grew out of our desire to celebrate our community—the women we are, the women we know, and the women we’ve yet to meet. There’s no need to remind anyone how rough the world feels right now, which is exactly why coming together matters. Let’s support one another, stick close, and make things feel a little lighter, even if only for a moment. So come on—brush your tail, have a little dance, and show us your work.

We are inviting you to submit 2D and 3D works for our exhibition celebrating women.

2D work needs to fit the size of a large letter to fit through the letter box, not exceeding Length 35.3cm, Width 25cm, Thickness up to and including 2.5cm. We have limited space for sculpture and installation work. We do not have a theme as we want to celebrate you as a creator instead of focusing on a specific subject.

There is no submission fee, but we are asking for a £10 participation fee if your work is selected to cover exhibition costs. All artworks must be available for sale, as this is also a fundraising event for you, the Artist, Outhouse Gallery and Small Works CIC sharing 60/20/20, please include a price in your submission including 40% to be shared between both organisers.

Yaning Wu
Making light

This short poem is a reflection on a spontaneous trip to Great Shelford, when I walked around the quiet town, wandered into a charity shop to escape the heat, and sat for a long while on a public bench watching young people frolick around a skate park and “inclusive playspace”.

I’d always felt wary of entering children’s spaces, even though they often looked fun, but this one was meant to be “inclusive”, so I ventured in. I felt freed by not only the slightly dizzying sensation of swinging this swing, but also of the long-awaited joy of gingerly traversing a ground-level trampoline and of standing on one of those purposefully wobbly pieces of equipment. The sun flitted back and forth and I got a true sense of the season.
