Honestly, if we could, we would buy everything ourselves and live surrounded by all of it forever. But we’re in a generous, sharing mood (it might be the hormones… and yes, that mood could change at any moment).
For collectors: if you’d like to receive the full list of available works, sign up to our Substack or send us a DM with your email address. We’ll be sharing the list this Saturday, and works will become available once the exhibition opens on the 8th.

To all the artists who submitted to Women’s Day- you should have received an email from us one way or another, please let us know if you haven’t heard anything.

Thank you again to everyone for taking the time to submit and lots of love to friends who submitted and maybe didn’t get accepted this round- it is always a challenge separating oneself from the process, but a really interesting experience working with a guest judge who brings different perspectives into the conversation. There will be more of these! That being said we are looking forward to meeting all of you and seeing how it all comes together.
We are very happy to announce final list of partic We are very happy to announce final list of participating artist and invite you to the “Women’s Day” exhibition.

This exhibition grew out of our desire to celebrate our community—the women we are, the women we know, and the women we’ve yet to meet. There’s no need to remind anyone how rough the world feels right now, which is exactly why coming together matters. The artwork for this exhibition was selected through a free open call, selected by Small Works co-directors and artists Sylwia Narbutt and Monica Perez Vega and guest judge, Rose Davey, artist and director of Corner7 project space. All work is available for sale with 60% to the artist, 40% split to fund both Outhouse Gallery and Small Works CIC programming.

Let’s support one another, stick close, and make things feel a little lighter, even if only for a moment…all work made by artists identifying as women and carers.

SEASONS was curated by @smallworksartgallery and inspired by the feelings, gestures and emotions that the four cycles of the year evoke, looking to nature for a sense of connection and grounding.

This exhibition paired with the launch of the newly refurbished Neurological Critical Care Unit (NCCU) at CUH, featuring a bespoke commission by Monica Perez Vega called ‘Cycles of Nature’.

25% of any artwork sales were donated to @actcharity.

Backyard Plein Air
Acrylic and flashe on canvas board in artist frame
2022
£450

With a portable easel set up in the garden, the artist pushed herself to paint outside every day - rain or shine. This was a particularly lovely day, quiet, sunny, and warm, with a birthday picnic table beckoning.

Monica Perez Vega’s work is rooted in nature, exploring themes of uncertainty and adaptation. Born in California, her memories of home are shaped by a shifting landscape, and experiences of continually starting over have led to a practice which investigates cycles of change.

Yaning Wu
Making light

This short poem is a reflection on a spontaneous trip to Great Shelford, when I walked around the quiet town, wandered into a charity shop to escape the heat, and sat for a long while on a public bench watching young people frolick around a skate park and “inclusive playspace”.

I’d always felt wary of entering children’s spaces, even though they often looked fun, but this one was meant to be “inclusive”, so I ventured in. I felt freed by not only the slightly dizzying sensation of swinging this swing, but also of the long-awaited joy of gingerly traversing a ground-level trampoline and of standing on one of those purposefully wobbly pieces of equipment. The sun flitted back and forth and I got a true sense of the season.
